Storage and Spoilage
Storage and Spoilage
Colony resources are stored as individual stacks rather than one immortal generic pile. Different supplies can have different freshness, quality, preservation, and uses.
What Can Spoil
- Meat and fish usually spoil quickly.
- Berries and many gathered foods last longer, but still decay.
- Herbs can wither before healers use them.
- Roots, mushrooms, and preserved foods may last longer depending on type and conditions.
Weather and Biome Effects
Heat can speed decay. Cold can slow it. Humidity can complicate drying. Sun and dry air may help preservation. Biome-specific storage conditions can also matter.
Preservation
Dried and salted supplies can last longer when available. Salt is valuable and should not be treated like an infinite seasoning cloud hovering over the den.
Handling Spoiled Supplies
Spoiled supplies should be discarded or composted carefully. Dumping rot carelessly can attract pests, predators, and contamination.
