Water stores
Water Stores
The Water Stores hold the colony's drinking water. Water is not one immortal blue number. It can be clean, stale, low, evaporated, contaminated, or unsafe depending on storage and conditions.
Water Quality
Water quality matters because unsafe water can spread sickness. A colony may have water and still be in danger if that water is contaminated.
Possible water states include:
- Clean - Safe drinking water.
- Stale or stagnant - Riskier water that may need attention.
- Tainted or contaminated - Dangerous water that can cause illness or colony warnings.
What Can Affect Water
- Heat and evaporation.
- Storms, flooding, runoff, or muddy conditions.
- Spoiled supplies or careless dumping nearby.
- Unresolved deceased remains near water or exposed during rain.
- Disease, parasites, toxins, algae, or rot pressure.
Unresolved Remains
Bodies left unattended can contaminate colony water, especially when there are several remains, they have been neglected for days, the weather is hot or wet, or the cause of death involved sickness or toxins.
Read Deceased Care for the full system.
Using Water
Water supports:
- Pet thirst and survival.
- Healer gardens and herb care.
- Some preparation and travel systems.
- Colony maintenance and den health.
Discarding Unsafe Water
Throwing away unsafe water carelessly can create new problems. Dumping tainted water near dens, food, gardens, or water sources can spread contamination.
Colony Pulse
Low water, stagnant water, evaporation, and contamination may appear in the Colony Pulse. Dismissing the notice does not make the water magically become polite.

Echo Note - Weather and water
Weather can affect water through evaporation, contamination, freezing, algae pressure, flooding, or unsafe runoff. A full water store is not automatically a safe water store.

Echo Note - Contaminated water
Unsafe water can spread sickness and connect to algae, runoff, remains, flooding, pests, and bad catches. Safe water matters more than just having a large number on the page.
