Deceased Care
Deceased Care
Death is part of survival in Feral Rise. When a colony member dies, their remains should be handled with care rather than vanishing into the void or being left beside the water stores until the entire den regrets every decision that led here.
Why Care Matters
Unattended remains can attract pests, scavengers, and predators. They may also contribute to contamination, unsafe water, sickness, and worsening colony conditions. Respectful care protects both the deceased pet’s memory and the living colony.
Possible Decisions
Depending on the pet, species, cause of death, colony circumstances, and available systems, the colony may be able to bury or otherwise process remains. Some hard survival choices may recover useful materials such as hide, fur, bones, fangs, claws, or meat.
Food Safety
Not every recovered resource is safe. Meat from a sick or contaminated animal may become tainted and can spread illness if fed carelessly. Rabbits do not eat meat. Foxes may be able to use appropriate meat supplies, but desperation does not magically sterilize them.
Respect and Tone
Deceased-care choices are intentionally serious. Feral Rise allows dark survival decisions, including the possibility of using remains when a colony is starving, but the system is not meant to treat a dead pet as a disposable loot box.
Tips
- Handle remains before pests or contamination appear.
- Check the cause of death before using recovered food.
- Protect the colony’s water and sleeping areas from decay.
- Remember that burial and processing are survival decisions with consequences.
