Graveyard

The Graveyard keeps a record of pets who have died. Death is part of Feral Rise's survival loop, and pets do not simply vanish from the world's history when their story ends.

What the Graveyard Records

A graveyard record may include:

  • The pet's name and identity.

  • The date of death.

  • The recorded cause of death when available.

  • Other memorial information connected to the pet.

Common Causes of Death

Pets may die from several systems, including:

  • Old age.

  • Sickness or untreated wounds.

  • Battle, scouting, hunting, exploring, fishing, or territory danger.

  • Severe neglect, starvation, dehydration, or colony disaster.

Old Age Death

Old age deaths are chance-based. An elder pet may survive past the first dangerous threshold, and that is normal. The graveyard records the death when it happens, not when the pet first becomes old.

Death During Travel or Battle

When a pet dies during a dangerous activity, the aftermath may explain:

  • What killed the pet.

  • Which carried pouch items were lost.

  • Whether territory progress or other travel progress was affected.

Faux may also send a message about the death. Faux is the site's system sender and grim-reaper voice. This is not the same character as F.O.X.S., the suspicious green-box creature.

The Body Still Needs Care

A graveyard entry records the death, but the colony may still need to handle the remains. An unattended body can attract pests, scavengers, predators, and contamination.

Read Deceased Care for the colony's options and risks.

Cosmetics and Gear

Cosmetic items are treated differently from functional survival equipment:

  • Cosmetics and protected appearance items are not meant to be lost simply because a pet died.

  • Functional equipment and carried survival supplies can be removed or lost depending on the situation.

Echo Note - Bonded snails

When a pet dies, any bonded snail may enter mourning. The snail's old active bond should be cleared or moved into history so the snail is not stuck bonded to a dead companion.

Echo Note - Former owner messages

After death, a pet may be moved under Faux/system ownership. Death notices and deceased-care access should use the former owner or death record where needed, not only the pet's current owner after death.

Echo Note - Faux death notices

Death-related messages may come from Faux, the system sender. Because dead pets may move under system ownership, notices should use former owner/death-record information where needed.

Echo Note - Memorial history

Graveyard and deceased-care events may become diary or archive records when they are important to the colony. Old-age passing should use gentler wording than danger deaths where supported.

Echo Note - Bone Scatter and Undertaker

Bone Scatter and Undertaker-style actions may connect to graveyard records, deceased-care choices, rare outcomes, and achievements where supported. Rare results should stay partly mysterious.
