Life Stages, Age, and Elders
Pets in Feral Rise grow through life stages, but the site now shows their age in days more clearly instead of relying only on old level labels.
Age Display
Many pages may show a pet's age as days old or as an age-stage label. This makes it easier to understand how long the pet has been alive and whether they are a kit, apprentice, adult, or elder.
Older pages may still mention levels because levels are part of the underlying growth system:
- Level 1 - Kit or baby stage.
- Level 2 - Child, apprentice, or growing young stage.
- Level 3 - Adult stage.
Kits
Kits are young pets who require nursery care. They cannot do adult colony work, breed, or safely take part in dangerous tasks.
Apprentices
Apprentices are growing pets. They can begin learning from mentors and may train toward a future role, but they are still not fully adult.
Adults
Adults can breed, work, train, scout, fight, and take on most colony roles if they meet the normal requirements.
Elders
Elders are older pets. Elder age does not mean instant death, but it does mean the pet is living in the risky late part of their life.
Elder pets may show a subtle greyed or aged visual effect on pages that support it. This is a visual cue, not a new pelt color.
Old Age and Death
Old age is not a daily guarantee of death. Some elders may live longer than expected, while others may pass sooner. The daily death system uses risk rather than a fixed execution button.
That means a very old pet surviving several days can be normal. The forest is not a spreadsheet with teeth. It is more annoying than that.

Echo Note - Elder Hearth
Elders can now be assigned to the Elder Hearth for safer support roles such as Training Mentor, Hearthkeeper, Nursery Storykeeper, Healer Aide, Perimeter Watcher, or Archive Keeper.
This gives older pets a softer place in the colony without pretending age stops mattering. Safe roles reduce regular danger exposure, but old-age passing can still happen.

Elder greying or age filters are age cues, not automatically inheritable coat colors. They help players recognize older pets while keeping actual genetics separate.
