Kits
Kits
Kits are newborn pets produced through breeding. They begin life vulnerable and depend on the colony for shelter, food, water, and protection.
Level 1: Newborn Kits
- Newborn kits remain connected to a nursing family in the nursery.
- A family uses one nursery bed while active care is needed.
- Orphaned litters are harder to keep alive and may require a wetnurse.
- Neglect, starvation, dehydration, illness, disasters, and poor conditions can be fatal.
Level 2: Growing Young Pets
After roughly seven days, a surviving level-1 kit grows into a level-2 young pet and moves into the caretaker stage. At this point, a mentor can be assigned to teach the skills connected to a future colony role.
Level 3: Adults
After roughly another seven days, a surviving level-2 pet grows into an adult. Adults can take on their trained role, perform more demanding work, and participate in adult systems such as breeding when otherwise eligible.
Appearance and Inheritance
A young pet's adult appearance is shaped by genetics, family traits, and variation. Mutations can also appear through inheritance and other sources.
