Nursery
Nursery
The Nursery protects pregnant pets, nursing families, and orphaned level-one kits. It is a den for entire families, not a warehouse for loose babies.
Family Beds
Nursery capacity is counted by family bed. A nursing parent and their level-one litter share one bed. Pregnant pets and orphaned level-one families also need appropriate space. If every bed is occupied, the colony must expand the Nursery or make careful decisions about who receives shelter first.
Care Needs
- Nursing parents and kits need food, water, and regular care.
- Larger litters require more supplies.
- Neglect, sickness, unsafe den conditions, and severe shortages can harm kits or their parent.
- When kits grow into level-two young pets, their needs move toward the Caretaker Den and mentorship system.
Wetnurses
When a litter grows older, a parent may be moved into a Wetnurse role when appropriate. Wetnurses support young pets and help the colony care for vulnerable families.
Alerts
The Nursery should be checked whenever the Colony Pulse reports a family without enough care, supplies, or available bed space.
Tips
- Do not fill every nursery bed without keeping extra food and water in reserve.
- Prepare for pregnancy before birth, not during the dramatic squeaking portion of the event.
- Growing young pets still need guidance after they leave the nursery.
