Elder Hearth

The Elder Hearth is where a colony can give older pets safer work after they have aged out of regular dangerous duty.

Elders are still part of the colony. They may not be ideal for risky hunting, scouting, raids, or hard labor anymore, but they can still teach, comfort, guard lightly, preserve memory, and support the den.

What the Elder Hearth Does

The Elder Hearth lets players assign living elder pets to safer support roles without changing the colony's normal role columns.

An elder can be assigned to one Hearth role at a time.

Elder Hearth Roles

  • Training Mentor - Helps younger or active pets learn. Training mentors can provide a small colony-wide EXP nudge and training guidance.

  • Hearthkeeper - Helps keep the den steady and watched over.

  • Nursery Storykeeper - Supports the Nursery through comfort, stories, and elder presence.

  • Healer Aide - Helps around the healing systems without being thrown into the worst danger alone.

  • Perimeter Watcher - Watches the edge and helps warn the colony, but should not be treated like a front-line warrior.

  • Archive Keeper - Preserves memory, history, and colony knowledge.

Retirement from Danger Work

Elders can be marked as retired from regular danger work. A retired elder should be kept away from hunting, exploring, scouting, raids, and other risky jobs when the system supports that safety check.

Retirement does not mean the elder is useless. It means the colony is choosing not to send the old fox with creaky knees to go personally argue with a bear.

Safe Role Benefits

Elder Hearth roles may provide small support effects, flavor guidance, or safer colony bonuses. These are meant to be gentle support effects, not a way to turn elders into immortal stat batteries.

Old Age Still Matters

Elder Hearth roles can make an elder's life safer and more comfortable, but they do not remove old-age risk entirely. Elders can still pass from old age when their time comes.

Echo Note - Elder roles and normal roles

Elder Hearth roles are safer support roles for older pets. They do not mean an elder should automatically keep doing dangerous ordinary jobs like scouting, raiding, or heavy defense.
