Canon vs non cannon
Ittermat here! I had somone ask me this so i figured id make a wiki page to explain it a bit!
The site is meant to be hard to play.. its meant to need some strategy.. you are meant to lose. your foxes will die.
thats part of the game.
Im sorry.. thats how I wanted it. I wanted it hard.. I wanted it TOUGH I wanted a challenge! I wanted something DIFFERENT.
However you will notice that between that and in that there are other.. not so.. cruel elements.. like dressing up the pets.. and changing bases and collecting cards.
Why?
Well thats because I still want you to have fun.
If a site is all Death death death destruction Im murdering your animals constantly... what fun is there?
And sure you made them look cool only for them to die and you get your stuff back... but you can do it again and maybe that one will live longer? who knows.. you wont lose the cosmetics. Just the fox. but losing the fox is part of the game. Losing the cosmetics isnt.
Trading cards? They dont do anything. You just collect them, trade em look at how pretty they are. they dont affect gameplay. they are not Cannon. Sure i made them match the site i added them into the site by making them painted on bitch bark with a fox named Thistle leading the way. But its not.. part of the sites lore. Doesnt affect you playing the game. Just something extra to do for fun.
So the base idea here is ..
If it doesnt affect gameplay- Its not Canon
And sure you get cosmetics playing the bone scatter game- and by doing rogue battles but like.. what does that really affect? Cool you got a new shiny thing to dress up your fox with. it doesnt give stats. So the items you get there are not canon.
Does it make sense?
Bone scatter game?
Canon.
Anything to do with dens and the colony? Canon.
Den decorating? Probably half canon. (confusing i know. but like doesnt affect gameplay but is in the dens? and you'll get the decor back if the den collpases)
But thats the basic idea...
Canon-> affects gameplay
Non canon-> does not.
Thanks! Mwah!

Echo Note - Overhaul clarification
The overhaul has added more functional equipment, so there is one extra little branch growing off Ittermat's original rule:
So the original rule still works:
If it affects gameplay, it is canon. If it is there purely for collecting or dressing up your pet, it is the protected fun layer.
The forest has paperwork now. Sorry.

Echo Note - Overhaul clarification
The overhaul has added more functional equipment, so there is one extra little branch growing off Ittermat's original rule:
- Cosmetics and dress-up items are still the fun layer. They do not give stats just because they look cool, and they are not meant to be lost with a pet.
- Functional gear such as bags, armor, and tools is different. If an item affects carrying space, travel safety, stats, durability, or survival, that part is canon because it affects gameplay.
- Some functional equipment may have optional artwork. Displaying the art is a cosmetic choice; the equipment's gameplay effect is the canon part.
So the original rule still works:
If it affects gameplay, it is canon. If it is there purely for collecting or dressing up your pet, it is the protected fun layer.
