Wilderness and Territory Battles

Some journeys lead to direct conflict. A hostile creature, rogue pet, predator, or defending colony member may force a traveler into a turn-based battle.

This page covers dangerous survival encounters. For the nonlethal player-versus-player sparring mode, read Playing Fang–Pelt–Claw.

Where Dangerous Battles Can Happen

  • Scouting – Pushing beyond familiar territory can reveal enemies and dangerous creatures.

  • Territory challenges – Scouting into another colony’s controlled tile may allow an optional challenge against an AI-controlled defender.

  • Travel encounters – Hunting, exploring, and fishing can expose pets to dangerous wildlife or predators.

The Battle Interface

The combat screen is designed around three areas:

  • Your pet – Review your traveler’s condition and choose an action.

  • Battle log – Follow attacks, damage, effects, and the current state of the fight.

  • Enemy – Watch the opponent’s Health and danger level.

Fleeing

A pet may be able to attempt a retreat. Fleeing is not guaranteed to be clean or safe. The enemy may strike while the pet is escaping.

Preparation

Before risking a fight:

  • Check Health, hunger, thirst, energy, sickness, injuries, and weather conditions.

  • Restock protected herb and water preparation slots when available.

  • Leave ordinary bag space for loot.

  • Do not send a vulnerable pet into a dangerous tile simply because curiosity has started wearing a tiny expedition hat.

Auto-Healing

A badly injured pet may automatically use a carried herb when the situation becomes dangerous. Once the protected herb supply is empty, the pet loses that safety net.

Possible Outcomes

  • Victory, with progress or rewards.

  • Retreat, possibly with damage or lost supplies.

  • Defeat, with injuries, lost carried items, lost territory progress, or death.

Death and Aftermath

If a pet dies, the aftermath records the cause and any lost pouch supplies. The death should also be recorded in the graveyard and communicated through the appropriate system message.
