Ruined Colonies
Ruined Colonies
Ruined colonies are colonies that have collapsed, been abandoned, or otherwise stopped functioning as active safe homes.
What a Ruin Can Represent
A ruin may represent:
--a failed colony
--an abandoned den network
--a former player colony
--an NPC/system ruin
--a story location
--a future exploration or recovery hook
--a memorial trace of what used to be there
What Might Remain
A ruined colony may still have:
--old den structures
--graveyard or memorial records
--activity history
--territory traces
--resource remains
--danger, pests, contamination, or scavenger pressure
--archive or diary entries
Ruins and Pets
Ruins should not automatically create normal owned pets. If a pet is found through a ruin-related system, it should move through the proper adoption, wanderer, rescue, or NPC rules.
Ruins and Territory
A ruined colony should not always claim territory like an active colony. Ruins may have special territory behavior, neutralization, or exploration rules depending on the system.
Recovery or Discovery
Some ruins may be recoverable. Others may be only discoverable, memorialized, explored, or cleared.

Echo Note - Ruins with teeth
Ruined colonies may still have hazards. Old dens, spoiled stores, unsafe water, pests, predators, scavengers, and unstable structures can make a quiet ruin dangerous.
