Colony Collapse and Ruins

Colony Collapse and Ruins

A colony can become unstable when too many core survival systems fail at once.

Collapse is not meant to be one random punishment button. It is the result of a colony no longer being able to function safely.

What Can Lead Toward Collapse

Collapse pressure may come from:

--no valid living leader or successor

--too few living/eligible pets to keep the colony running

--severe hunger, thirst, sickness, or injuries

--unhandled deaths or unresolved remains

--unsafe water, spoiled food, pests, or contamination

--lost territory, repeated raids, or hostile pressure

--lack of beds, unsafe dens, broken defenses, or missing materials

--abandoned care systems or long-term neglect

--major Chaos, ritual, or event pressure where supported

Leader and Reserve Handoffs

If the leader dies or becomes invalid, the colony may need a valid successor or reserve pet.

A valid successor should be alive and eligible. A dead, sick, underage, unavailable, or otherwise blocked pet should not quietly inherit the colony just because their name was on a list once.

Ruins

Ruins are what can remain when a colony fully collapses or is abandoned.

Ruins may preserve traces of what happened, such as:

--former colony name or owner context

--old pets or graveyard history

--lost structures or damaged dens

--territory memories

--logs, archive entries, or story history

--possible future recovery, discovery, scavenging, or memorial hooks

Recovery

Some collapsed or damaged states may be repairable depending on the system.

Recovery might require:

--valid living pets

--a leader or successor

--food and safe water

--healing and quarantine support

--repairs, materials, and builders

--deceased-care cleanup

--territory stabilization

--time

Ruins Are Not Normal Colonies

A ruined colony should not behave exactly like an active player colony. Ruins may be visible, remembered, explored, archived, or handled by special systems instead.

Pulse and Archive

Colony Pulse may warn when collapse pressure is rising.

The Colony Archive or Diary may preserve major collapse, recovery, or ruin events.

Echo Note - Ravage Ruins

A collapsed or abandoned colony may become more than a memory. Some ruins can turn into dangerous places with scavenging, hazards, records, or recovery hooks where supported.
