Dress up
Dress Up and Displayed Gear
The Dress Up system controls how a pet looks. Pets can wear cosmetic layers and may display art for equipped gear when an image is available.
Cosmetics Versus Functional Equipment
Cosmetics and equipment are related, but they are not identical.
- Cosmetic only – Changes appearance without providing survival stats.
- Functional only – Provides an equipment effect without being displayed.
- Functional and displayed – Provides an effect and adds a visible layer when species-compatible artwork exists.
A useful item can still function even if no art has been drawn for it yet.
Species Artwork
Displayed gear uses species-specific artwork where available. Fox and rabbit images are handled separately so a rabbit is not forced to wear a fox-sized backpack like an extremely confused parade float.
Layering
Dress-up layers stack over the pet's base image. Cosmetic placement and visible gear can be adjusted without changing the pet's actual genetics or base coat.
Death and Item Handling
Functional gear is removed when a pet dies. Pure cosmetics may be returned according to the item's rules. Remains, carried items, and deceased-care decisions are handled separately through the colony survival systems.
