Starting Out Guide
Starting Out Guide
Welcome to Feral Rise. The first few steps matter because the game expects you to build a functioning colony rather than release two bewildered animals into the woods with a clipboard.
1. Adopt Your Starting Pets
Begin at the Adoption Center. New players begin with two starter pets.
Current species include:
- Foxes – Omnivorous predators with flexible survival roles.
- Rabbits – Herbivorous colony members with their own strengths and care rules. Rabbits do not eat meat.
Different species cannot breed with one another.
2. Join or Create a Colony
The colony is the center of the main survival loop. It stores supplies, organizes pets, manages dens, and gives you access to the systems needed to keep pets alive.
Read Colony after joining or creating one.
3. Assign Roles
A healthy colony needs a mixture of jobs:
- Healers treat sickness and injury.
- Caretakers guide growing young pets.
- Builders support repairs and fortification.
- Scouts and warriors help with travel, territory, and dangerous work.
- Wetnurses support vulnerable young families.
See Roles Within the Colony.
4. Watch Supplies and Conditions
Food, water, herbs, weather, bedding, sickness, spoilage, and den condition all matter. Check the Colony Pulse regularly.
5. Prepare Before Traveling
Hunting, exploring, scouting, and fishing are useful but dangerous. Check the pet’s health, hunger, thirst, energy, supplies, and bag space before sending them outside.

6. Expect Consequences
Pets can become sick, suffer injuries, lose supplies, or die. Feral Rise is intentionally a survival game. Preparation matters, but the wilderness retains the right to be deeply inconvenient.
